FINAL POST

This class was one of the biggest challenges I have had in school so far!!!
I was so nervous coming into this class, because I am not the most computer savvy person. I now how to go on line, but I didn't  know how to make videos, slides, interactive activities and blogs.
But with Ginny's help I over came more obstacles than I thought possible. I am still a little nervous, but I know I can do any of the stuff we learned. (just a little slow).
I am excited about the possibilities that I will have using all the technology I have learned.
I am really excited about the interactive board. I had no clue how this worked for a long time,,,and now I do!!!
This is going to help me come into the 21st century.
Thank you Ginny for truly caring about your students and being so patient with me.  :)

Website_Googlesites

I am really excited about my first professional page. I was extremely nervous about using technology that I have never used before, but I have become more confident in doing web pages, videos, and other internet oriented tools. I feel my students will benefit from using this type of technology.
I have often wondered how sites were made and videos of the class, and now I know!!
I am more excited than ever to get started teaching so I can figure ways of incorporating into the class room.
I feel my web page will be a useful tool to find out information about me and what my expectations in teaching are.
I like how we had the chance to personalize it, yet make it professional

Delicious

http://www.delicious.com/obohanan

What went right?
I was able add the sites and things that I use a lot to the site. It is an easy way of storing things that
you will use a lot, and have access to them anywhere there's a computer.

What went wrong?
For some reason I had a hard time getting the link on my blogger. Adding all the sites and information you will be using can take a lot of time.

How will I use this in the class room?
This would be a valuable tool for my students to use. The things we will be working on in class will be easy for them to access at home, it will all be on one page. They can take their lessoons with them anywhere they go.

Aaron Copland Video project

What went right ?I feel the over all video looks really good. I got the main ideas that I was wanting to use across. This was my first time using this program and I fell i did good on it. I think people would understand who Aaron Copland is after watching this video.

What went wrong? This was a challenge for me. I stressed over this, a lot! I had a hard time with the pictures in the beginning. I found out, the hard way, you have to use a certain size picture or it will not work. I didn't know the first set of pics I used were the wrong size. some of my frames move way too slow, and didnt match the music.

How will I use this in the class room? This was be an incredible tool with my marching band. For the year end dinner, have pictures set to the years marching band show music. Telling the story of the first day of band, to use winning everything! ( I can dream) The students can add their own touch to the movie.

Inspiration_Musical Instruments of the band

1. What went wrong?
This was a hard operation to figure out when linking it to may pages, Blogger and Google Sites. This is a program you have to purchase and will only be read in the "paid" program, and other programs will recognize the file.

2. What went right?
Once I figured out the bugs, and could relax, I found this software to be VERY useful. It turned out to be fun and let the teacher use a lot of creativity.

3. How will I use this in the class room?
This will be VERY useful in the classroom. I will use this in teaching the instruments of the band. With the fun graphics I think the students will be interested in learning more about what they see. It will, hopefully, introduce new instruments to the students.

Scavenger Hunt

1. What went well or not well? The items we were asked to find or easy to find. The 4 of us worked really well as a team. Looking for basic artistic forms is an easy task to get students to do. We would take turns taking pictures and each person added their own picture to the project. No one had an attitude or tried taking over; we all work very well together.

2. How will you use this tool in your professional practice and/or instructions with students? This would be an awesome tool to use with music education. Getting students to look for several  types of instruments and photographing them; then adding any information on them. This will not only get students out of the class room and actually "search" for items, but teach team work. It would require the students to have some knowledge of musical instruments and/or learn more from fellow students.

3. What will you do differently next time? I feel this was a success there is not a lot I would do differently, except ask for different items to look for. I would like to search for items that aren't in my field of education. I think it would be interesting to have to search for items a Social Studies teach would be using or an engineer would use. This would be interesting what different items students/ME could come up with.

obohanan-Wordle Project

Wordle

Wordle, Project can be a little challenging.
The idea is to focus on the most used words to the least for the students to click on for information
http://www.wordle.net/create
this site is where all the work is done.
You can choose  a topic and group of words.
Save them to your computer, somewhere you can find them.
This would be VERY useful in the music.
Students can click on a composers name and be taken to a site all about that composer.

WOW!!
This class is really pushing me..... A LOT!
I'm not the most computer savvy person there is and I really am challenged. Wednesday we got our assignments for a class presentation. I am excited about this....I get to do a presentation on a app call
"AudioBoo". It's an awesome new program that can be really useful in the class room. My partner is a girl named Sara, which I find really neat....My best friend is Sarah. Different spelling, but close enough. Sara says she doesn't know that much about computers, but I think she knows more than she really realizes.  :)
AudioBoo is a new program that will utilize phones some students have; iPhone and Driods.(some nokia phones as well)
It is a really cool new way of teaching students that will keep their attention. They can add the app to their phone, for free, and be able to do homework. This would be an awesome tool to use in math: the teacher would post a problem on AudioBoo and then you would hear how to solve the problem. The same thing would work with English Lit. You could post a scene from a story you are reading and then play the matching audio with it.
I think aduioBoo would be extremely useful with bands. I plan on using this in my program. I will photocopy a page of the music they are working on and record their instrument playing it. This will be very beneficial to struggling players; they will be able to focus on their part alone, they will have a better chance of success.
My partner Sarah and I have really come along on our presentation we are preparing. I feel this has truly been a team effort. We have added our own touch to the presentation, I feel that will help us be more at ease; it's something we like so we will be comfortable teaching it. We are still working out a "kinks" but I am not worried. We really get along, she is really into this project also. I feel the more we do the more I am actually learning..I'm starting to get more confidence in what I am doing!!!!
AudiBoo has the potential to be an awesome teaching aide for students who might be having a hard time keeping up in class. This out of class way of learning has the potential to change some lives.
Most people do have am iPod or smart phone, or access to one. And if they don't there is an app they can use on the Internet as well. I wish/hope school will take this new way of learning serious, it could really help some potentially "left behind" students

WOW!!
This week has been crazy!! I have been trying to post this blog since Thursday and the Internet at
UT has been messed up. I finally hard to go to a friends place and use their Internet. It's rough being poor. LOL
This week in TPTE I learned how to do a WIKI, which I must add is becoming easier for me. I think that has to be one of the neatest things on the Internet. It will be awesome working on a project and having the person at their place working with me. I can see how this can be a huge tool in the class room. At first I was a little nervous about it, but then after actually using WIKI I began to get the hang of it. The video that was shown showed everything that can be done, but when i went to the actual site I was looking for the same type of screen that was in the demo.....wrong. But I am getting better at adding things to it.
We had to add links to the sidebar, and add to the main page, which was a little confusing to me, but like I said I am getting the hang of it.
This will be a GREAT time saver in class. When I give out group assignments students will have a greater chance of success. One of the hardest things in working with groups is finding the time for everyone to meet and add the input to the project. With WIKI everyone can be on line at their home, a restaurant, school or where ever and work on then project at the same time. I will be able to monitor their success and help them when needed. Everyone can add something different.
It is a great tool in other areas also. Friends can help each other with home work. One student can ask a question and the other can, work the math problem out, help them with grammar on an English paper. The use for this site is unlimited.
Next time I use WIKI I won't have all the issues I had this time. I am still not a pro at it, but my fear of something new is turning into excitement for my future students.

Website Evaluation

Today on class we had to review a blog post of our choice, mine was on "Famous Trials"
I found this site VERY easy to use and very educational. I found myself spending more time looking over the different trials as I was looking for information. It has trials from the BC ear to the current 911 Trials of the people who flew into the twin towers.
From an educational side, this site would be a huge help to students doing research on trials, famous or not, throughout history. There is more information than just what happened in the trial, there is history on the person on trial and what could have made them do something bad.
In teaching this would be an EXCELLENT site to help in History and English to give students more information on a subject they could be studying.
We had to make sure that the information on the site was credible, which I thought was a good teaching tool. If we are going to allow students to use web sites we recommend we need to make sure they are factual. I liked the process we did this by looking at this site from every possible way: who the author was. Where is is from. What his credentials are.....etc. I like how this exercise made me think and not take everything at face value, but explore and find out if things are what they seem.

This has been a good weekend. Had a band concert at Harriman High School, with the Babahatchie Band. I think this was our best concert yet, and NO I'm not one of those directors that say that after ever concert. Our last concert was not good at all, but what can you do it's a community band. I think/hope the audience really liked the music I chose; it was a selection between contemporary bandl literature and movie music. I liked it..LOL.
Saturday we had a home game (basketball) between UConn. We met at 3pm for the game at 4. I couldn't get over the huge turn out for the game. I don't really know sports, I know shocking since I'm in the Pride and work with area marching bands....I watch the bands, the REAL reason for Football games
I had worked the night before, Friday, and was worn out for the whole game; I actually went to bed at 8pm and slept all night..LOL I was tired!!

DAY ONE

Hello world this is my first blog and first time talking about me. I find this very strange putting my personal out on the Internet for the entire world to see, but I'm no one famous ...so who would really care to read about a poor person in Knoxville, TN. :) I am taking a computer tech class that I hope will help me overcome my fear of computers and will get me into the 21st century. I am studying to be a band director, hopefully high school, and I know this information will REALLY help me when teaching. I have never had luck when it comes to anything electronic. A friend tells me I have something in my body that shorts out devices. I have gone through more cell phones than anyone I know. My car stereo decides what things I need to hear or not. (The volume seems to get louder or softer on its own.)
I have been conductor of the Babahatchie Community Band  in Harriman, TN for the past 10 years. We do 8 concerts a year, 4 in the winter and 4 in the summer. It has been real challenge for me; working, going to school full time, and conducting the band, but for the most part it has been VERY rewarding. I live alone, except for my three cats....which you could call my three spoiled children. They say it's not the pets fault they are spoiled, but the owners.I beg to differ!!! LOL  You have NEVER meet my cats... Their names are Bobby, Emily and Momma, and they all know their names. I can be in another room from all three of them and yell for a certain one. and then I here..thud...thud...thud..thud.....(my cats like...no ...LOVE  food) and here comes the one I was looking for.
I feel really blessed for everything I have and for the healy and energy to keep going and going, doing the things I love.
